Development Team
Outsmarts is a student development team headquartered in the School of Media Arts and Studies at Ohio University. Composed of over a dozen developers and over two dozen testers, this team is one of the largest student development groups in the country. Chromatica is the second game developed out of the School of Media Arts and Studies.
Developing the Game
Development of Chromatica began in September 2007. Roughly a dozen students got together and proposed different designs, ranging from turn-based Role Playing Games to puzzle games. The idea of Chromatica was put forth by Savannah Palmer and approved by the rest of the team. The first three months of development consisted of heavy planning as no student involved had worked on a computer game before. Some students learned to script using TorqueScript in order to implement the design in Torque Game Builder (by GarageGames), others worked on a production schedule, others worked on art concepts, and more worked on finalizing the design of the game. Production began in earnest in late November, 2007 and continued through mid-May, 2008. The game was finalized at the end of May and the beginning of June, 2008.
